Your Car Should Match Your Lifestyle

Buying a car is usually an exciting experience in any person’s life. It does not matter if you have just finished high school and are surprised with a small vehicle to start your college years with or if you are a successful business man trading in your current set of wheels for something a bit more luxurious, the experience remains exciting!

If you are considering buying a car, there are a number of things you need to consider:

What is your budget? Even though we all secretly want to drive very fancy sports vehicles with sunroofs and fancy navigation systems, the simple truth is that the average man on the street will not necessarily ever have the privilege of owning such a luxury! Be realistic when shopping around for a car – remember that you also need to budget for expenditures such as fuel and insurance, and that the actual monthly installment won’t be the only thing to deal with.

What do you want to use the car for? Students that are just looking for 4 wheels and a steering wheel to get to their classes will usually start with a very basic and inexpensive vehicle, especially if they need to pay for it themselves! A family of four might be a bit inconvenienced in a 2 door sedan, especially if you add a baby with a car seat to the equation. And a businessman that spends a lot of time in the road will definitely need to invest in something a bit more comfortable, possibly with power-steering and air-con.

Consider your lifestyle. Are you a city slicker or a farm boy? Do you like to go on trips to rugged locations or is your idea of a fantastic outing a trip to the nearest mall? If you often need to transport larger items or simply enjoy going camping or exploring the unknown, a little sports car would probably not be your best bet. On the other hand, if you only use your vehicle to take your pooch to the parlour, a rugged 4×4 or bakkie would be overkill.

Extras are not always a good idea. Many individuals spend insane amounts on proper sound systems for their car. It is important to keep in mind that this does not really increase the value of your car. If you are trying to sell your vehicle, a buyer would not necessarily be interested in spending a small fortune more on your vehicle, just for the fancy sound system. This does not mean that you should not accessorize your car to suit your style and likes, but do not expect that you will receive as much back as what you invest in the car.

Before you start shopping for your next car, do a bit of research. Decide whether you require a vehicle with air-con and power-steering, two seats or four, a sedan or a SUV etc. Cars cost a lot of money – make sure that you take the vehicle for a proper test drive before you make a final decision.
